At a special Congressional Convention on February 27th, former US Congresswoman — and long-time Bedford Corners resident — Nan Hayworth, officially received the nomination of the members of the Republican Party in Westchester County.

The next step will be for her to collect petition signatures from Republican Party members. Petitioning for Congress is earlier than normal this year, starting on March 4th and ending in April.  So get your clipboards and pens ready!

As Nan’s “home” town chair, Bedford GOP Chair Luke Vander Linden officially nominated her with the following:

Some might say that we’re lucky to have TWO members of congress in the 18th congressional district.

One of course was barely elected in 2012, lives and spends most of his time in Manhattan, pals around with the likes of Elliot Spitzer and has zero local name recognition – in fact when I was called for a poll from his campaign a few months ago, the caller told me I was the very first person all day that could actually name him. And if you Google his name, you get more hits about – guess who – Nan Hayworth.

Nan hasn’t stopped acting like a member of congress since she was first elected 4 years ago. And although she came up just short in 2012, she hasn’t skipped a single event, meeting, fair, festival, block party, bar mitzvah, seniors bingo night, awards ceremony, ribbon cutting or parade in Westchester, Putnam, Orange or Dutchess since.

She has the energy, determination and intelligence to run a terrific RE-election campaign this year.

So, it is my distinct privilege – especially as the chairman of her hometown Bedford Republican committee – to nominate:
– A woman who has made her life here among us in Westchester for nearly three decades
– A mother who attended public schools and sent her sons to public schools right here in Westchester
– A neighbor and doctor who has cared for patients here and knows what it means to start and grow a small business here
– And a public servant who has a connection to our community that money cannot buy.

I’m proud to enter Nan Hayworth’s name into nomination as our candidate for Congress in the 18th District of New York.
